After receiving a lot of negative feedback over the past several days over plans to create two new single-sex middle schools in Northeast Austin, school district Trustee Cheryl Bradley, who represents the area, said she thinks the idea is still the best move for these campuses and that there are many people telling her to keep moving toward a board vote on the proposal by next month.
“I have quite a bit of silent support,” Bradley said Wednesday.

Superintendent Meria Carstarphen said Wednesday that she still needs to see what the entire board thinks before making any recommendations.“There are a lot of things in it,” Carstarphen said when asked whether the recent feedback on the proposal had affected her views. She described the plan as “one approach” to improving schools in the area.
“Right now I’m still listening, I’m still pulling together information, and I think there are still stakeholder groups we can do more with,” she said.
